Where did we get the name biNu?

Posted by , February 7th, 2010

Typing long text names on a mobile phone keypad is a pain. So we wanted a short name, no more than four characters, that could work in multiple languages and cultures. It didn’t have to mean anything in particular.

Realizing that most mobile phones have numeric keypads and that numbers are a universal language, we figured looking at an easy to remember numeric sequence to derive a word might be an interesting approach.

We couldn’t use the number “1″ key as usually it does not have any letters associated with it.

Besides “1-2-3-4″, the next most obvious and easy to remember numeric sequence is “2-4-6-8″. Looking at the letters typically associated with these keys on a standard phone keypad, we came up with “b-i-n-u”!

biNu 1.0 Released

Posted by , February 6th, 2010

First production version 1.0 of biNu is now officially out!

biNu is less about sexy, all singing, all dancing user interfaces and much more about getting stuff off the internet to your mobile really, really fast, even if you have an “ordinary” low-end mobile on a slow network. And making it easy and simple to use.

Try it an see.

Our goal is to provide instant, and yes we mean INSTANT, response times wherever possible.

One way, amongst others, that we do that is by getting what you want to the phone before you ask for it. And if we can’t do that, biNu is so efficient that it typically takes between 1-3 seconds to get what you want on to your mobile screen.

Try it and see.

We’ve started out with a number of basic applications available on biNu and we’ll be adding more over time. Another cool feature of biNu is that it’s really easy to develop end-user applications and we hope in due course that others will join us in bringing more fun and useful applications to the biNu platform.

Type “binu.mobi” into your mobile phone browser to download biNu to your phone.

2-4-6-8, Baby I Need U!!
