GENERAL
What is biNu?
biNu is a mobile phone application that provides super fast, simple, cost effective access to many Internet based applications such as Facebook, Twitter, Wikipedia, news, sports, weather etc. biNu is designed and optimized for mobile wireless devices and provides instant response times, even on slower networks.
Can I use biNu on my phone?
biNu is capable of running on phones that have an internet connection, support Java mobile applications and have a keypad – most mobile phones made after 2001 meet these requirements. Currently biNu is not supported on the iPhone, touch screen phones or Blackberry phones. You are welcome to download and try biNu on your phone.
Do I have to pay for biNu?
No, biNu is free, however you may incur data charges from your mobile phone carrier. Data transferred to your phone when using biNu is heavily compressed making your mobile internet data use much more cost effective.
Do I need some kind of Internet service from my mobile provider?
In general, you will need to have some level of Internet access provided for in your phone service agreement. Check with your mobile provider if you are not sure.
INSTALLATION
How do I install biNu on my phone?
You can download biNu to your phone via WAP or SMS text message.
Visit binu.mobi using your phone’s existing web browser and click on the Download biNu link. During the installation process various alerts may pop-up on the phone’s screen (such as “Security warning: Application is untrusted and may be harmful to your phone”). You should disregard the alerts and click “continue” or “ok” to continue installing biNu.
When using the SMS method, we send you an SMS message that includes a link to the binu.mobi site where you should click on the Download biNu link. When you receive the SMS, open the message and the link inside. To open the link, either click on it, or use the menu and select Use Details. Depending on your phone model, you may need to scroll down to highlight the link and choose ‘Select’, ‘Go to’ or ‘Open’. Once you have done this your phone will open an Internet connection and start the download. Please be patient as the installation process may take a few minutes.
Finding biNu on your phone
biNu is a Java application and usually will be filed under Applications, Java Applications, File Manager or a similarly named folder that can be reached from the main menu of your phone. On smaller, older phones it might be found under Games. If you can’t find biNu anywhere on your phone (and you are sure that you installed it correctly), please consult your mobile phone manual or your phone manufacturer’s Web site.
Running biNu
When you run biNu, it connects to the Internet. During the connection process, you will most likely be asked to allow biNu to use the network in order send or receive data. Depending on your phone model and your phone set-up, you may also be asked which connection to use.
Before logging in, some phones will ask you which connection to use. Try choosing the default connection. If that fails, try using other connection profiles you have set-up on your phone. If that doesn’t work see connection problems.
CONNECTION SETTINGS
What are the correct Access Point Name (APN) Internet settings for my phone?
An APN is the name (web address) of an access point for GPRS/EDGE/UMTS data connections. Mobile wireless carriers usually provide the APN to their end users.
To be able to connect biNu to the Internet, your phone needs proper settings. In general, there are two different settings:
- GPRS/WAP
- Internet
biNu usually needs the Internet setting. Any settings including the letters MMS will not work. Make sure that you choose the correct Internet settings. The correct Internet settings will usually include your mobile carrier’s name and then GPRS, WAP or Internet.

How do I manually enter APN Internet settings on my phone?
Please consult your mobile phone manual or your phone manufacturer’s Web site.
I have the right settings, but biNu still doesn’t work
There are devices that require a special configuration in addition to the right settings. Some Nokia phones require you to activate the settings as default in all applications. In addition, some Sony Ericsson phones require you to set the Settings for Java.
Try our settings page, and if that doesn’t help, please contact your service provider.
How do I enter APN Internet settings on my Nokia Series 40 phone?
Starting from the point where you have already downloaded and installed biNu, but you are unable to load pages:
- Go into Settings.
- Go into Configuration.
- Go into Personal Configuration Settings.
- Now, press Add New (visible if you don’t have a previous Personal Setting created) or press the Options button. When you have pressed the Options button, choose Add new.
- When you have pressed Add New, you will get a new menu, which will give several options to choose from.
- Now, scroll down and choose the Access Point and press Select. (Please note that this option is not available on the Nokia 3220 model and maybe on some more models, you can instead use the Services option instead of the Access Point option on the Nokia 3220.) Do not choose the Web option, since this will not work with Opera mini.
- Now go into Access Point Settings.
- Go into Bearer Settings.
- Go into Packet Data Access Point.
- Now, enter you APN address corresponding to your provider. Then press OK.
- Go back to the Personal Configurations Settings menu, where you now should be able to see an Access Point selected.
- Now press the Options button, and then choose to activate this Access Point.
- Now you should be able to start biNu.
- If you are still having problems with your Nokia S40 2.0 model of phone, please make sure that you have entered all the required information into the APN setting concerning proxy, user name, password, port etc.
